7 Thoughts on Modern Web Writing

March 22, 2016 by

modern web writingBelow is an interesting infographic on modern web writing I found the other day. In it, you see “me” sitting at my desk creating engaging, visitor-centric copy. Because more businesses are getting it, ie, understanding the importance of well written copy to online success, I thought it would be interesting for you to see what goes through my mind as I optimize your website.

No matter what page I’m writing for you, I’m thinking about each of the elements of writing you see in this infographic.

Storytelling Skills

Whether it’s a Sales Page or a blog post, introducing a narrative and following through on the story for the reader makes all the difference. It may just be in the leading few sentences, but it’s easier for people to get it though story.

Social Media Savvy

I write all of your pages to be interesting when posted on social media. Great headlines are key here.

Copywriting Ability

This is sales writing and it’s the most important element in writing for the web.

Usability Awareness

I think this is more important than indicated in the infographic. Your website visitor’s thought process from one page to another is crucial to keeping them on the site and moving them to action. Make it easy for them.

Research Aptitude

Search engines are amazing but I’m not giving away any of my secrets here!

SEO Mastery

Every page on your website must be written so it has the best chance of getting found in search. Always on my mind as I write your pages.

Coffee and Work Ethic

Yup, I love my coffee. And there is something to be said for being able to finish, especially when it comes to creating copy from scratch.
