Connect Fast with Your Website Headline and Intro Text

website headline and intro textI don’t know why this didn’t hit me harder before, but sometimes you’re so involved in projects that you can’t see the forest for the trees.

I’ve blogged about the importance of a website headline and intro text on homepages. Too often I see business websites with no headline. Or a tag line acting as a headline. I think that website owners often think a headline redundant. After all, “We’ve been around a long time, our customers already knows us.”

I’m helping a friend with a website and one of my recommendations was a headline on the homepage along with some introductory text. As usual with my “Headline Advice,” I thought it a good idea to include a major benefit along with a descriptive and useful intro.

Then later, after I saw the working headline on the homepage, it struck me like a ray of sunshine. I smiled after reading it and the intro text. I couldn’t help it, didn’t even realize I was doing it. I felt warmer inside, like I’d just met someone.

The words in the headline were like a real person! They helped me make a connection to the business just like a clerk or salesperson or owner would if I had just walked into a store.

Yes, a well written headline helps the visitor know they’re in the right place. And it gets him/her excited about what the site can do for them.

But, maybe even more importantly, it creates a human connection. A connection that loads the website with power. The business is no longer colorless, imposing. Its goodwill has telepathically transferred to my head…and my heart. I’m in the right place…but I’m also welcomed with just a few words that connect me to you, the site owner. Your website is more than just an online brochure.

See if you can create a homepage headline that connects. One that appeals to your visitor’s heart. Need help, give me a call. Let’s build a powerful headline that builds that all important human connection you strive for in the visitor-centric world of online marketing.

Until next time,
